  2. Q

    Where can I get CaityPies?

    A

CaityPies now has its PieBar vending booth at Nashville events and farmer's markets. Check the Calendar page to see where our booth will be. We can deliver your order to you, or you can arrange a pick up location with us via our contact page or in the comments on your order. Please keep in mind that the owner/team of CaityPies work full time day jobs Monday-Friday, so we do our best to meet all CaityPie needs early in the morning, in the afternoon/evening, or on the weekends. This is why we need 24-48 hours to respond to your order and 3-5 business days to fill requests (though we will stay in touch with you to make sure we get you a fresh pie ASAP). We are very quick to respond to messages and negotiate pick up/delivery times with you whenever our hands aren't covered in butter and flour. Please use the website or speak to us directly via the contact page or DM on social media/email to request your order. We will bring the pies to you or arrange a pick up location.
  3. Q

How can I pay for CaityPies?

    A

We currently accept payments at delivery or at our vending booth, so we work on the honor system when you order in advance that you will pay on delivery. We accept cash, cards (via Square), or Venmo payments.
  4. Q

I know you are a handpie company, but I want to order round pies!

    A

You've probably already checked out our social media and know that we have been known to make a whole variety of pies not listed in our handpie menu! CaityPies creates a unique handpie product for the majority of our sales, which can be neatly packaged as half dozen and full dozen boxes for events and gifts; however, we also can produce regular round pies and mini pies with lattice crust. Please use Special Order Traditional Pie option in the Store to select the size of pie you want and let us know the flavor in the comments section or via our Contact page. Many of our other flavors can be found throughout our Instagram & Facebook feed... Caramel Corn Custard, Bourbon Cherry, Bourbon Peach, Blackberry Lemon, Strawberry Pretzel Icebox, Peanut Butter Pie, French Silk, Key Lime, and etc etc... but if there is another flavor you're dying for let us know and if we can get the ingredients in season we will whip it up for you!
  5. Q

I want to ship CaityPies out of the Nashville area!

    A

We do too! We have had requests to ship pies out of the city and out of state and we are currently researching the best methods to make this dream a reality. Stay in touch via social media and we will announce when shipping is an option!
  6. Q

How should I eat my CaityPies?

    A

Our primary aim as a business is to make our treats so delectable that you eat them as soon as you receive them! CaityPies can be eaten chilled, room temperature, or heated, per your preference. We suggest that our savory handpies be eaten warm - you can heat them at 400 degrees for 5-8 minutes or microwave at 20 second intervals to your preferred temperature. Our Smores and Caramel Apple pies are also great heated in a warm oven or microwave. We suggest eating your Shaker Lemon pies chilled, but that is entirely up to you! Our only suggestion is to return your pies to a fridge after 2-4 hours to maintain safe temperatures for food, especially the savory pies.
  7. Q

How long do CaityPies last? Is there an expiration date?

    A

Technically our pies have a 2 week expiration date, but we suggest eating them within 2-3 days for the best crust texture and within 6-7 days for the best flavor (especially if your storage/fridge space has lots of flavors and smells). CaityPies are made as quickly as we can manage with our time prior to market - never more than 3 days in advance of sale. This is part of the reason we have a 3-5 day delay on special order requests. We have limited time to bake and want you to have the freshest pie possible, so if we don't already have it made we will rush to get it prepared and in your hands!
  8. Q

I'm Vegan! I'm Gluten Free! Do you have pie for me?

    A

Thankfully, Cait is educated in nutrition/dietetics and has a background working in natural/organic foods, so we completely understand what you are looking for! As of yet, we haven't found the perfect combination to get the flavor, mouth feel, and texture we look for in our crusts and fillings to offer vegan or gluten-free options. We won't bring a product to market until it has our 100% seal of approval. However, we do want to know if you have a food/nut allergy (most of our products don't have nuts unless marked [ie pecan pie] - we will be sure to clearly label allergens) and we will work to find something that meets your needs! Send us a message to let us know how we can help.
  9. Q

What does Cottage Food Industry mean?

    A

Tennessee's laws are great in that they offer Cottage Food Industry waivers on small businesses run out of the home. Within certain serving/product regulations Tennesseans can produce their own food and sell as a licensed business so long as they are clearly marked as not made in a certified kitchen. If we ever say that we can't work in a certain capacity or produce a certain product, that is due to the Cottage Food regulations, not our personal desires! CaityPies aims to start working out of a licensed, certified commercial kitchen space in early 2018 when the production can support the cost. In the meantime, Cait is a ServSafe Certified Food Manager, so our home kitchen is run with the utmost attention to cleanliness, food safety, and with an added benefit of small batch attention to detail that you won't find in many industrial kitchens! You know how they say Grandma's pies were baked with love? That is the attention to detail we are talking about! What do you probably want to know? 1) CaityPies is a legit, licensed TN business. 2) We produce everything out of our clean home kitchen. 3) Cait is a certified Food Manager with ServSafe credentialing. 4) CaityPies is insured, so we can vend at events & farmer's markets that require a certificate of insurance. 5) We pay close attention to temperature/time food safety protocol.
  10. Q

What is a Handpie? Do you mean Fry Pie?

    A

It depends on where you come from! Any pie you can fit in your hand is a handpie, so fry pies, and some poptarts and turnovers are handpies (like a square is a rectangle). CaityPies are baked, not deep fried, so we make the distinction that we produce handpies, not the typical fry pie you can find in TN (as a rectangle is not necessarily a square). CaityPies are made with a homemade traditional or cornmeal pie crust dough that is hand rolled, cut, and filled with a homemade filling. We then fold, crimp, and bake our pies in a hot oven. It's very similar to a traditional pie, but this one you can hold in your hand and don't need any silverware or plates to consume! CaityPies focuses of quality and texture of crust, so we have spent years perfecting our balance of fat to flour ratios. A handpie gives you more crust experience than a traditional pie slice, so we want the flakiness of our product to stand out in a crowd! We produce both sweet and savory options, as there is a time for sugar and a time for salt throughout the day. CaityPies has your back no matter what you're craving.
